In 2023, Joana M. Gomes obtained her PhD in Tissue Engineering, Regenerative Medicine, and Stem Cells (TERM&SC) from 3B's Research Group in Biomaterials Biodegradables and Biomimetics (University of Minho, Braga, Portugal), Headquarters of the European Institute of Excellence on Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine at Avepark, under the supervision of Doctor Simone Santos Silva and Professor Rui Luis Reis. She graduated (2010-2013) and received her MSc degree in 2015, both in Biochemistry, from the University of Aveiro, Portugal with a final grade of 16 (0-20). Joana Gomes¿ MSc project was focused on the development of extraction and purification platforms, for biomolecules and other added value compounds, from real biological matrices, using ionic liquids (ILs). During 2016, Joana developed research work at the same institution and most of her studies aimed to continue her previous work, directed to the use of ILs for the development of efficient separation and extraction strategies. From January to August of 2017, Joana worked as a Research Assistant, at King¿s College London, in the Department of Infectious Diseases, and her main project aimed the identification, production and purification of human proteins that interacted with HIV, inhibiting the infectivity of this virus. In September 2017, she started pursuing her PhD at 3B¿s Research Group in the PhD program in Tissue Engineering, Regenerative Medicine and Stem Cells (TERM&SC) in the University of Minho, being the focus of her research using biocompatible ionic liquids for the processing of natural molecules and their application as therapeutic platforms. As a result of her research work, she is author or co-author of 14 peer-reviewed papers in international journals, 3 book chapters, 8 poster presentations and 2 oral presentations.
