Cristina Neves graduated in Chemistry - Specialization in Quality Control of Plastic, by the University of Minho in 2006. In 2009 she got her MSc in Environmental Management by the same institution and in 2014 successfully completed her PhD in Sustainable Chemistry by the University of Porto. Currently, she is a researcher at CICECO - Centre for Research in Ceramics and Composite Materials from the University of Aveiro, where she has been involved on the development of clay based nanomaterials for encapsulation of active species for different coating applications within several different projects (FUNACOP, NANOBARRIER, SMARCOAT, MAGICOAT, SMARTAQUA, NANOGREEN, COAT4LIFE). Cristina Neves has been a researcher/team member of a multiplicity of scientific projects based on networking with high-profile academic institutions and industrial partners (e.g. HZG - Institute of Materials Research (Germany), University of Latvia (Latvia), Smallmatek Lda. (Portugal), SYNPO (Czech Republic), SINTEF (Norway)). So far she published a total of 20 papers in peer-reviewed journals (h index 14) , 1 book chapter and 3 conference proceedings. Her research records covers topics ranging from nanomedicine through materials science, with important impact on science translation and health, society and technology. She was responsible for the co-supervision of undergraduate and Master students as well has MSc researchers. Her work was presented in high level meetings (both poster and oral presentations) and was awarded by different panels with key figures in the field: Best Paper Award, in 2012 (in the XI International Conference on Nanostructured Materials), and a Young Scientist Award in 2013 by European Materials Research Society (E-MRS). She is guest editor of 2 special issues regarding Surface functionalization of polymer nanostructures and Functional additives for Polymers and Journal of Composite Materials, respectively. Her currently research interests focus on the development of novel functional layered nanofillers as reinforcements for bio-based polymeric materials, sustainability of nanolayered materials on a perspective or circular economy and studies of materials end-of life.
