Gladys Caldeira

Gladys Caldeira concluded her Graduation in Genetics and Biotechnology in 2010, at the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro and two years later completed her Masters in Cell and Molecular Biology, at the University of Coimbra, specializing in Neurobiology. In 2012 she enrolled in the PDBEB PhD programme (Biomedicine and Experimental Biology) at the University of Coimbra where she studied the role of the synaptic protein, Stargazin, in the development of neuropsychiatric disorders. She has generated and characterized a genetic mouse model harboring a human mutation associated to intellectual disability. Currently, she is interested in studying the role of synaptic genes in the development of Psychiatric disorders, namely schizophrenia and intellectual disability. She has extensive expertise in cellular and molecular biology (including but not limited to the preparation of primary neuronal cultures, neuronal transfection, wide-field and confocal microscopy, site directed mutagenesis, cloning and the generation of genetic mouse models) and animal behavior (cognition, social function and anxiety-like behavior).
