Bárbara Vieira holds a PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Minho, Portugal, has specialised knowledge in Hydraulics and Environment, and is a member of the Portuguese Professional Association of Engineers (Ordem dos Engenheiros). She has extensive expertise in creating and implementing numerical models in Urban, Fluvial and Maritime Hydraulics. Her PhD research is in the field of Coastal Engineering focusing innovative nature-based solutions for coastal erosion protection. In 2014, she was distinguished with the award for the best student of the Integrated Master's in Civil Engineering at the University of Minho. Currently, she is a young researcher at the Centre for Territory, Environment and Construction (CTAC) of the School of Engineering of University of Minho, developing research activities in creating and implementing hydro-morphodynamic numerical models in the field of Maritime Hydraulics, and has experience in teaching Integrated Water Resources Management and Fluvial and Maritime Hydraulics. She has participated in national and international research projects in hydrological, hydrodynamic and morphodynamic modelling, and worked as a Junior Civil Engineer at the municipal water and wastewater utility in Braga (AGERE-EM). She has published several scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals and communications presented in national and international conferences in several scientific domains: extreme wave analysis under uncertainty scenarios, urban wastewater systems, hydro-morphodynamics, and thermo-mechanics of recycled steel fibre reinforced concrete.
