Graduated in Applied Biology (University of Minho), Solange Costa has a master in Environmental Health (Catholic University of Porto, ESB-UCP) and a PhD in Biomedical Sciences (Institute of Biomedical Sciences Abel Salazar, University of Porto). First focused on the molecular responses triggered by the exposure to genotoxic/carcinogenic chemicals, she has also developed research on the impact of air pollution (outdoor) in human health. The subject of the doctoral project also warranted funding from FCT as the IC & T Projects Competition in 2010 (ref FCT: PTDC / SAU-ESA / 102367/2008). Currently, her research aims to identify biological markers linked to the ageing process that may serve as early signals of risk and/or health deterioration and understand the bio-impact of environmental and behavioural factors in older adult’s health. With little more than 13 years of research, she has authored or co-authored more than 45 research publications, with more than 1000 total citations.
