Vitor Teixeira graduated in Biochemistry and earned a Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Porto in 2015. Throughout his academic career, Vitor has demonstrated excellence in research, as evidenced by the publication of 21 papers and conference contributions in reputable, peer-reviewed journals, accumulating over 1100 citations with an h-index of 13. His doctoral work focused on sphingolipid functions and metabolism, delving into fundamental changes occurring in aged and diseased cells. During his Ph.D., Vitor supervised 1 undergraduate and 1 MSc student and contributed to the publication of 7 papers in high-impact journals, earning him travel grants for lecture plenaries in prestigious conferences, including the FEBS/EMBO Young Scientist Forum Prize in 2014. In 2016, Vitor Teixeira got a highly competitive ERC-funded fellowship to perform postdoctoral work at the Sir William Dunn School of Pathology (University of Oxford, UK) in lipid droplet (LD) biology and seipin interactome and functions. During his tenure, he supervised 1 MSc student and the work resulted in 1 high-impact publication in the Journal of Cell Biology highlighted by the Oxford University Biochemical Society. Vitor was also awarded with the 2016-2017 Invitrogen Science Hero Renaissance Man Award by Invitrogen. In 2019, Vitor's expertise earned himself a FCT Junior Investigator position at i3s. Here, he established an independent research line in LD biology and neurodegeneration. Simultaneously, he assumed the role of Assistant Professor at ICBAS to students of Medicine, Oncology, and Biochemistry, also receiving a teaching staff ERASMUS+ fellowship to teach at Ludwig Maximilian Univ. of Munich. In 2020, he was selected for the 70th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting, which brings together Nobel laureates and young scientists to foster scientific exchange. In 2021, he assumed duties as Project Peer Reviewer for the Science Fund of the Republic of Serbia and for ANR (National Agency for Research of France). Vitor expanded his influence by joining the Editorial Board of MDPI-IJMS as a Topical Advisory Panel Member and Editor, and he is serving as a Peer Reviewer for Frontiers and JBC. Vitor has secured 3 funded projects, supervised 2 undergraduate, 3 MSc, and 2 lab resident Ph.D. students with this position. His production includes 8 published papers (two as the first author and three as the last author) and a total of 9 conference papers in national and international meetings. His contributions were acknowledged with a FASEB Science Research Conference fellowship and an oral presentation at the 2021 45th FEBS Virtual Congress. Vitor's professional network spans more than 10 collaborators worldwide, participating in national and international projects like ERC Starting Grant DROPFAT and H2020-EU.1.1.: PhaseAGE. As a team member of the European-funded Twinning project PhaseAGE, he delves into stress granule formation in neurodegeneration, actively guiding MSc and Ph.D. students and contributing to the organizing committee of the I PhasAGE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE 2021. In 2022, Vitor became an EMBO Fellow and Visiting Scientist at the Weizmann Institute of Science, Israel. The following year, in 2023, Vitor was promoted by securing an Assistant Researcher position through the international peer-reviewed Individual Call to Scientific Employment Stimulus by FCT. His project focuses on the mechanism of lipid droplet formation by the seipin complex and the molecular basis of seipinopathies. For science communication and outreaching, Vitor actively promoted and supported various events, as the Symposium MCBIOLOGY PhD 6th Edition and the Junior Outreaching University Program 2022 at i3s. During his career, Vitor participated in several symposia and workshops on life sciences issues and science communication, visited high schools, and organized lab open days for secondary teachers and students to promote science.

Activity description Newspaper / Forum
2020/06/22 I actively contribute for the Initiative STUDY & RESEARCH IN PORTUGAL with written testimonials collected by FCT. "Our graduate programs spans all fields of knowledge and the breadth and interdisciplinary nature of our research sparks imaginative and inventive insights and solutions. We are already home to some of the most talented people from across the globe, with vibrant tech hub and start-up ecosystems, aiming at solving real-world problems and fast-tracking technology and innovation. We invite you for a meeting of minds."
2020/03/01 I launched, together with two medical doctors and a communications manager, a Facebook page called "COVID19 dúvidas respondidas por profissionais de saúde", in which we provide updates on the epidemiological evolution of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemia while answering to questions raised by the general public in the page. We intend to fight misinformation and promote health and science literacy. The page currently has currently more than 600 thousand members and has now been extended to international setups, where we reach all portuguese-speaking countries.
