Mariana Rodrigues Ferreira Silva has completed a Masters in Food Biotechnology in 2017 in Universidade de Aveiro and a Licenciature in Biotechnology in 2015 in Universidade de Aveiro. She currently is a Ph.D. candidate (SFRH/BO/145661/2019 ) with the theme UV-Vis blocking coatings for clear and transparent glass food packaging. This work is part of the CLEVER project (Nº POCI 01-0247-FEDER-039699 ) counts with a collaboration between industry leaders Barbosa e Almeida group, SuperBock group, and on the academia side - University of Aveiro. She has also worked as a research grantee in the project "Smart Green Homes" or SMH. This project was based on the collaboration of industry (Bosch Termotecnologia Aveiro) and academia (University of Aveiro). She is currently working in the grant: BI(M) - SGH/CICECO-UA/7960/2018 in Universidade de Aveiro CICECO, where she works on developing piezoelectric nanoparticles, using microwave technology, as well as studying the piezoelectric property as its relates to the nanoparticles morphological and physical characteristics. She has also worked on another project in "Smart Green Homes" - BI(M) - SGH/CICECO-UA/164-01/2017. In this grant (14 months) her work was on the development of photocatalysts capable of degrading compounds such as CO2, NOx, and VOCs (volatile organic compounds), when exposed to solar or UV (ultra-violet) radiation, as well as compounds such as rhodamine B in liquid media, using UV and visible light sources. During this time a prototype was developed to be used in air purifiers and exhaust ducts of heat pumps in production and already produced, respectively, by the project's industry partner. She is also a member of a Cost action regarding the importance of carbon materials. This is a result of the use of carbon materials in the photocatalytic materials developed for the SMH project. She also has experience working with microwave technology to produce nanoparticles of photocatalytic oxides. Additionally, she has made thin films (with oxides) with dip and spin coaters to evaluate their ability to photodegrade compounds when exposed to various radiation types. She is familiar with nanoparticles production via sol-gel and hydrothermal procedures as well as particle functionalization. She has experience in the production of biodegradable films of both chitosan and starch. She works with these equipments: texturometers, contact angle measuring equipment, UV-Vis spectroscopy, FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared), and Raman spectroscopy.
