Ricardo Coelho graduated in Biology (2009) and obtained his MSc in Molecular Oncology (2011) at Abel Salazar Institute of Biomedical Sciences in collaboration with IPATIMUP with a thesis entitled “Mitochondrial Regulation of Epigenetics and its Role in Human Diseases". Afterwards, Ricardo continued to develop his research training at IPATIMUP/i3S, University of Basel (Switzerland) and SciLifeLab, Karolinska Institute (Sweden), under the scope of his PhD in Biomedicine (FMUP, University of Porto; concluded in 2020). Ricardo’s PhD work was centered on the molecular mechanisms involved in the peritoneal dissemination of ovarian cancer. He was able to identify mesothelin (MSLN) as a central protein in the dissemination of ovarian cancer cells in the peritoneum by promoting cell survival in suspension, invasion through the mesothelial layer and spread within the peritoneal cavity. Ricardo is the co-author of 7 peer-reviewed publications (2 as first author), and also participated in 2 research projects financed by national institutions.
