Since 2018, he has been an Assistant Professor in the Electrical and Computers Engineering Department at the IST of the University of Lisbon. He was an invited assistant of DEEC/ACEn between 2014 and 2017 and was an invited professor after obtaining his Ph.D. degree between 2017 and 2018. In May 2017 he was awarded, through a public tender, a postdoctoral fellowship at the IDMEC/LAETA research center. His scientific work aims to expand the current limits of electromechanical devices using emerging advanced electromagnetic materials and cooling techniques. He focuses on the development of new technologies that integrate three characteristics: (a) increased efficiency to reduce energy consumption; (b) high power/torque density to reduce size and weight, and (c) longer lifetimes. These types of devices will be increasingly critical in industrial and transport applications, e.g. in automation and in electric vehicles and aeronautical applications. To date, he has published 42 scientific papers in international journals, such as IEEE trans. on Industrial Electronics, IEEE trans. on Energy Conversion, IEEE trans. on Magnetics, Energy Conversion and Management, among others, and 27 scientific works at international conferences. This candidate is currently secretary of the IEEE Power and Energy Society Portugal (second mandate), and an Associated Editor of IEEE trans. on Energy Conversion and was also Guest Editor and Topic Editor at MDPI journal. He is currently the IST PI in the European project SEMS4USV from Frontex, and as a researcher in the national project PRR in collaboration with the company Eneida and in a project for defense in collaboration with the Portuguese Army. -------------------------------------------- Evidence of Independent Work: In 2018, as an Assistant Professor at IST, to expand and complement his autonomous work in advanced materials, he started a new research line focused on cobalt-iron alloys for electrical machines. In this context, he obtained a PhD scholarship funded by FCT, as a supervisor. One of the main results was the identification of the potential to increase up to 70% of the torque density of electric machines using these alloys. This result led to the publication of (4) papers in international journals, two (2) papers in international conferences, and an "Outstanding Paper Award" at the IEEE 2nd Global Power, Energy and Communication Conference. In 2020, he performed a sabbatical leave at the Polytechnic of Turin, Italy, developing an international collaboration with professors Andrea Cavagnino and Silvio Vaschetto in the area of cryogenic and superconducting electrical machines. Within this collaboration, he started a new research line regarding cryogenic machines. This research line is complementary to his superconducting research. The development of cryogenic machines, either with conventional materials or superconducting ones, will push forward the current limits of electromechanical devices. ------------------------------------------- International Collaborations: His international collaborations are currently divided into three groups: • Since 2020, has collaborated with Prof. Andrea Cavagnino and Prof. Silvio Vaschetto from Politecnico di Torino, Italy, in the area of cryogenic and superconducting electric machines. • In 2019 he was invited to participate in the elaboration of the accepted proposal COST Action CA19108 “High-Temperature SuperConductivity for AcceLerating the Energy Transition”. His work focuses mainly on the modeling, simulation and application of superconductors in electrical devices. • Since 2017, she has collaborated with prof. Modesto Pérez and prof. Amparo López, from the Universitat Politecnica de València, on optimizing the performance of electrical machines in water distribution systems.
