Tomás M. Fernandes holds a MSc in Biochemistry (2018) and a BSc in Biochemistry (2016). He is currently a PhD candidate in the Biotechnology Doctoral Program from NOVA School of Science and Technology, NOVA University Lisbon. He is developing his PhD Thesis under a FCT PhD Grant (2019-2023) on the "Biochemistry and Bioenergetics of Heme Proteins" Laboratory, part of the "Structural and Molecular Biology" Group from UCIBIO. His Thesis focuses on the study of porin-cytochrome complexes from Geobacter sulfurreducens, using several biophysical techniques, with special emphasis on NMR spectroscopy. He is being supervised by Dr. Leonor Morgado and co-supervised by Prof. Dr. Carlos Salgueiro. Tomás Fernandes has published 10 papers in international peer-reviewed journals (8 as first author). He has participated in 25 conferences, national and international courses, where he was the author or co-author of 13 poster presentations and 5 oral communications. In 2019, Tomás Fernandes was awarded the Springer Nature Young Biophysicist Best Talk Award, for his work at the NOVA Biophysica conference. In 2020, he was awarded the Portuguese National Directory of Higher Education Merit Grant (3500 euros), due to his academic success.
