Graduated in Mechanics of Materials and Fatigue, he is currently working on the development of bio-inspired components, both in their design and in the development of manufacturing technologies, hybrid and additive. These components are multi-material, multi-scale, multi-functional, with multi-physics design. He coordinates the micro-manufacturing and systems integration laboratory at the CMEMS research center, University of Minho, which currently has 10 PhD researchers (8 contract PhD researchers), and 25 doctoral students, among other master students. He has 5 international patents + 7 submitted, 6 international research awards. Coordinates 20+ projects with multiple partners from various continents and more than 30 companies (>7Meuros). Completed the Title of Aggregate in Experimental verification of the Bauschinger effect in fatigue behavior in 2011 at University of Minho School of Engineering, PhD in Mechanical Engineering in 2002 at University do Minho, PhD in Multiaxial fatigue of different materials at different temperatures in 2002 at University do Minho School of Engineering, Master in Fatigue of an Al matrix composite in 1996 at University do Minho School of Engineering and Mechanical Degree Engineering in 1992 at the University of Minho School of Engineering. He is a Full Professor at the University of Minho and a researcher at the Center for Microelectromechanical Systems. With exponential growth in the last 8 years, in almost all outputs, he has 300 ISI indexed papers(h35 index-scopus) and is ranked among the 2% of most influential researchers in the world(Elsevier/Stanford_2021).
