Curriculum Vitae

Inês Gomes holds a PhD degree in History and Philosophy of Science from the University of Lisbon (2015), where she wrote a doctoral thesis on material culture, instruments and collections. In particular, she studied the origins and evolution of school collections of natural history associated with Portuguese secondary schools, crossing methodological approaches from the history of science, the history of education, the history of collections and the scientific heritage studies, and using material culture as a source to deepen the knowledge of scientific and pedagogical practice. In 2016 she collaborated with an investigation at the Institute of Contemporary History (IHC) on the impact of invasive species in southern Europe, expanding her research objectives and interests to Environmental History, and associating her areas of specialization [Degree in Biology, Master in Georesources, PhD in History and Philosophy of Science]. In this context, between 2017 and 2019, she was also a postdoctoral researcher at the Interuniversity Center for the History of Science and Technology (CIUHCT), where her research integrated the perspectives of the History of Science, Environmental History, Urban History and Animal History. Since June 2019 she has been collaborating with the ReSEED Project - Rescuing seed's heritage: engaging in a new framework of agriculture and innovation since the 18th century - funded by the European Research Council. Joining the history of science, the environmental history and the rural history, her current research interests build upon the recent international historiographical trend which has drawn attention to the need for cross-studies between cultural heritage, the history and the natural sciences to engage on successful conservation policies. Inês Gomes is now a research at the Institute of Contemporary History, NOVA School of Social Sciences and Humanities / IN2PAST - Associate Laboratory for Research and Innovation in Heritage, Arts, Sustainability and Territory.
