My research career has developed through my participation in research projects on different topics in Psychology. My efforts have contributed to the advancement of knowledge on human development topics. I enrolled in a Psychology degree program at the University of Évora in 2010. From October 2012 to January 2013, I joined Prof. António Diniz’s research seminar. In this context, I learned about quantitative and qualitative data analysis methods. As part of a project on aging success indicators, I assisted the research team in collecting data on perceived motor capacity and clinical psychological symptoms. To further explore social issues, in 2013, I proposed a research project, which was led by Prof. Fátima Bernardo, on the contents and processes of place identity. I participated in this project, from its design to the public dissemination of its findings. As a result, I was selected to present a poster and a communication at the XIV Conference on Environmental Psychology, during which the quantitative and qualitative data were discussed. In the same year, I enrolled in the Master’s degree program in Applied Psychology at the University of Minho. As a component of this program, I had the opportunity to join Prof. Bárbara Figueiredo’s “Family and Development” research lab. Thanks to one of the lab’s projects, I could return to a human lifecycle topic: the transition to fatherhood. My participation in this longitudinal study resulted in my Master’s thesis concerning attachment orientation and caretaking memories in this population. Additionally, I had the opportunity to present my findings at a symposium at the 3rd Congress of the Order of Portuguese Psychologists. My experience in the field of psychology intervention was also shaped by similar topics addressed in my research career. For instance, in 2014, as a volunteer intern at the Educational Program Department of the SOS Children’s Villages Cabo Verde, I designed and implemented differentiated psychoeducational programs tackling needs of institutionalized youth and the broader community. By utilizing scientific knowledge in writing technical reports, my volunteer work established a solid groundwork for future events of a similar nature. After having devoted five years to international professional experiences in the aviation industry, I resumed my research career in early 2024. I became a research fellow in the project titled “There’s No Planet B: Adolescents’ Agency Towards Climate Change” funded by Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia (https://doi.org/10.54499/PTDC/PSI-GER/1892/2021), led by Dr. Jennifer Cunha. This opportunity enables me to deepen my previous background to address a pressing environmental and societal issue with significant practical implications. In a short time, I developed two first-authored posters and papers mapping the state of environmental education in the Portuguese formal education system. These works were accepted, respectively, for presentation at the International Psychological Applications Conference and Trends 2024 and for publication in inScience Press (World Institute for Advanced Research and Science). In parallel, I have been attending the Self-Regulated Learning Research Group, coordinated by Professor Pedro Rosário at the School of Psychology (University of Minho).
