Cristiano Mota has been an Assistant Researcher at UCIBIO-NOVA since 2023 (awarded with a contract in the competitive 2022 Individual Scientific Employment Stimulus Competition (CEEC), call promoted by the Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia). He obtained his PhD in Biochemistry from NOVA University Lisbon (2011). His doctoral research focused on the study of molybdoenzymes, employing steady-state kinetics and EPR spectroscopy. In 2012, he was awarded a five-year postdoctoral fellowship at the ESRF in Grenoble, France. During this period, he acquired expertise in X-ray crystallography and SAXS, and served as a Local Contact at the Structural Biology beamlines, providing technical support and scientific guidance to academic and industrial users. In 2017, he joined the Crystallography Group at UCIBIO to investigate molybdoenzymes, specifically aldehyde oxidases and formate dehydrogenases, and their enzymatic mechanisms. He leads the exploratory project PHA4FUTURE and actively contributes as a team member to several other projects (CO2 reduction, Drug Metabolism). To date, he has supervised 1 PhD (ongoing), 5 MSc, and 3 BSc students, and has authored 24 peer-reviewed publications. Cristiano Mota has extensive expertise in molecular biology and heterologous protein production, protein purification, and biochemical and biophysical characterization. Additionally he is highly proficient in structural biology techniques, including X-ray Crystallography and Small Angle X-ray Scattering.
