Ricardo Carvalho is a researcher at the Centre of Environmental and Marine Studies at the University of Aveiro in the field of resources circularity assessment and technology, bridging gaps between system perspectives and real case studies. In 2016, he concluded his PhD degree at the Aalborg University in Denmark. Since then, he has been working in project consortium on the development and application of integrated energy models and life-cycle based methods to improve the performance of bio-based products and biomass strategies enhancing sustainable development. His research entails a close cooperation with industrial and societal stakeholders in the context of emerging bioeconomies. Ricardo traveled and worked in different parts of the world, including one postdoctoral stay at the Umeå University where he became an active member of the Swedish Strategical Bio4Energy Platform - Environment & Nutrient Recycling (2016-2018) working within the scope of bioeconomy transitions in the forest and agricultural industries, and a stay as visiting lecturer at the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Ceará - Brazil (2012). Since 2011, Ricardo has been working in research projects in diverse countries such as India, Kenya and Brazil, conducting case studies ranging from local to global levels. His most recent work includes sustainability life-cycle assessments applied to biobased products from the forest sector, including the analysis of waste valorization scenarios aiming the mitigation of carbon emissions in the pulp & paper industry. Ricardo has been co-supervising MSc and BSc students working within his topics of expertise. He is a author and co-author of one book chapter, articles in international journals and communications in international conferences. Ricardo enjoys travelling, world music, hiking and activities in nature that allow him to learn more about diverse cultures.
