Ana Paula Valagão Amadeu do Serro completed her Doctor degree in Chemistry in 2001 by University of Lisbon at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) and her Bachelor degree in Chemical Engineering in 1994 at the same Institution. Currently, she is Associate Professor at IST, but in 2015-2019 she was Principal Researcher at Egas Moniz School of Health and Science. She was Deputy Director of the Research Center CiiEM at Egas Moniz (2015-2019) and Assistant Director for the COVID-19 Testing Program at IST (2020-2022) . She supervises(d) 11 PhD students (8 of them already concluded) and 42 MSc students . She is author of about 120 publications in indexed international journals mainly in the field of Biomaterials - Materials Engineering , 14 publications in international congress proceedings, 2 book chapters, about 310 communications in scientific conferences, 32 invited lectures and 11 awarded communications. She has an h-index of 33, with more than 4150 citations (Scopus). She leads(ed) several national and international projects (FCT, MERA.NET, MARIE-CURIE). She was awarded with the distinction "Excellent Professor" at IST 5 times since 2019, and received a honorable mention from University of Lisbon in 2023 for her research work. The Project SurfLenses that she leaded was considered a “Success story” of the program M-ERA.NET. Her main interests include: Biomaterials development and characterization; Controlled drug release; Hydrogels (for ophthalmic lenses, wound dressings, scaffolds, cartilage substitutes); Ceramic dental materials; Biotribology; Adsorption of biomolecules onto biomaterials; Sterilization.
