I am a Postdoctoral Fellow dedicated to the study of movement ecology and to advancing our knowledge on the mechanisms underlying animal movement decisions, both over an individual's lifespan and in response to environmental change. I completed a PhD at Univ. East Anglia (UK) in 2022, a MSc in Conservation Biology (2012), and a degree in Biology (2009) at the Univ. Lisbon (Portugal). I have authored 17 peer-reviewed papers, worked in 11 research projects in 8 countries, with researchers across 5 continents, demonstrating my collaborative spirit. My research has been recognised through 10 grants and awards. I have co-supervised 5 MSc students, 1 MSc internship and 1 BSc project, and mentored 1 PhD candidate and 2 MSc students. During my PhD, I analysed the environmental determinants of dispersal and migratory behaviour of long-lived birds, using white storks and shoebills as study species. Currently, I am based at French National Research Institute for Sustainable Development (France) to investigate how anthropogenic resources affects bird health and movement, potentially increasing human-bird interactions and pathogen transmission risks. I am also coordinating a research project, in collaboration with the BIOPOLIS-CIBIO (Portugal), University of East Anglia (UK), and University of Castilla-La Mancha (Spain), investigating the effects of early-life conditions on the migratory behaviour of white storks. In addition, I am in the core team of the COST Action "EUFLYNET", where I serve as Grant Awarding Coordinator. Since 2014, my main research interest has been bird movement ecology and the development of technological tools to study animal movement. This has led me to collaborate with several national and international research institutes (e.g., BIOPOLIS-CIBIO - Portugal, Institute of Avian Research - Germany, FitzPatrick Institute for African Ornithology - South Africa, Tel Aviv University - Israel, University of California LA - USA), working with the movement ecology of a several bird species. I am actively engaged in the scientific community as reviewer for leading journals, editor for EcoEvoRxiv, and member of the British Ornithologists’ Union committee. I have delivered 35 presentations at conferences, with awards for best oral (2022) and poster (2023) presentations. My work has been covered by over 50 international outlets, 2 podcasts, 3 blogs, 2 nature documentaries, and at 7 science communication events, demonstrating my ability to disseminate my research to diverse audiences.
