Ana Teresa Nunes graduated from the University of Coimbra in 2011, with an Integrated Master of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering. Closely after, she initiated her research at ICNAS (Institute of Nuclear Sciences Applied to Health), focused on the field of medical radiation, specifically internal radiation dosimetry of PET (Positron Emission Tomography) examinations. Since mid-2017, Ana has supervised multiple Biomedical Engineering undergraduate students in curricular internships. In 2018, Ana began her Ph.D. studies, focused on the development of image-based retinal biomarkers for neurodegenerative disorders. In 2019, Ana was elected Chair of the IEEE University of Coimbra's Student Branch, in the scope of which she organised a conference, followed by a debate, on the role of women in science and technology careers. Ana's academic research is centred in the knowledge fields of Engineering and Technology Sciences, Medical and Health Sciences, Clinical Medicine, and Basic Medicine; with an emphasis on Medical Engineering, Radiology, Nuclear Medicine and Medical Images, and Neurosciences. Ana is the lead author of 3 research articles in indexed journals, 6 conference papers, and 1 book chapter; and has promoted her scientific contributions in multiple international conferences (7 posters and 5 oral communications). Currently, she holds a Senior Technician position at the Faculty of Psychology and Education Sciences of the University of Coimbra, in the scope of the research project funded by the European Union, namely "TypoMetaLing", which explores metacognitive monitoring: the ability of individuals to track decisions, cognitive states, and behaviour in uncertain situations.
