In 2020, Filipa Gaspar-Silva completed her BSc in Biochemistry with honours at the Faculty of Sciences (FCUP) and School of Medicine and Biomedical Sciences (ICBAS), from the University of Porto, having a final classification of 17 out of 20 (8/65 students had 17, being the best classification). During this time, she enrolled in a curricular internship at the Institute for Research and Innovation in Health (i3S) Molecular and Neurobiology group. Since neurodegenerative diseases are a field of interest of Filipa Gaspar-Silva, she joined a project focused on the impact of transthyretin on the angiogenesis of the blood-brain barrier that can be disrupted in diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, having finished with final classification of 18 out of 20. Due to her increased passion in Molecular Biology, in 2022 Filipa Gaspar-Silva earned a Master's in Cellular and Molecular Biology from FCUP, with final classification of 19 out of 20 (4/18 students had 19, being the best classification). Since her goal is to understand what triggers neurodegenerative diseases when we age, she wanted to better comprehend what happens during the ageing process. Hence, her master's thesis was completed at i3S in the group Ageing and Aneuploidy, focusing on the positive feedback loops that induces mitosis onset and revealing their weakening as we age as well as senescence correlation, having finished with final classification of 19 out 20. She is the first author of a review paper that focus on brain ageing. Filipa Gaspar-Silva has become skilled in cell culture methodologies, namely, primary cells, where she accomplished transfections and transduction. In addition to molecular biology techniques, she is also proficient in live and fixed-cell imaging. To expand her knowledge in neuroscience, she also enrolled in a continuing education course, NeuroTOX: from theory to practice of neurotoxicity biomarkers (FMUP and FFUP) from University of Porto, under the program Adult Impulses of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR). Besides the mentoring that she performed during her MSc internship, she also tutored young undergraduate students (ranging from middle to high school) in the fields of Biology and general sciences. Currently, Filipa Gaspar-Silva is enrolled in the PhD degree in Experimental Biology and Biomedicine with a specialization in Neurosciences and Diseases from the Institute for Interdisciplinary Research (UC). Her PhD project, granted by FCT, will be carried out under the supervision of Doctor Ira Milosevic (MIA, UC). Her goal is to better understand neurodegeneration.
