Filipe Sousa is an Assistant Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship at the Department of Management and Economics, Faculty of Social Sciences, at the University of Madeira (UMa). He is a member of the Centre of Applied Economic Studies of the Atlantic (CEEAplA), a research unit co-founded in 2003 by UMa and the University of Açores (UAc). He holds a PhD in Management from the Faculty of Economics of the University of Porto (FEP), and his main research interests include topics in the fields of ‘Strategic Management’, ‘Industrial Marketing’, and ‘Theories of the Firm’. His doctoral thesis led to a book entitled "Business Relationships and Corporate Nature and Scope: A Critical Realist Analysis", published in 2010 by Lambert Academic Publishing. Filipe Sousa was bestowed with the ‘Outstanding Author Contribution Award’ at the Emerald Literati Awards for Excellence (2011) for his co-authored chapter entitled "Anatomy of Relationship Significance: A Critical Realist Exploration”, which was featured in the “Advances in Business Marketing and Purchasing: Organizational Culture, Business-to-Business Relationships, and Interfirm Networks, edited by Professor Arch Woodside. Filipe’s research outcomes have been presented at some of the most important academic workshops and conferences in the Management field, namely those promoted by the Academy of Management (AOM), the Strategic Management Society (SMS), the European Group for Organization Studies (EGOS), the Eurasia Business and Economics Society (EBES), the World Interdisciplinary Network for Institutional Research (WINIR), and the Industrial Marketing and Purchasing (IMP). Filipe Sousa has been a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA, ref. PR281915) since May 2024 and a Certified Management & Business Educator (CMBE, nr. 102134) by the UK Chartered Association of Business Schools (CABS) since May 2023. He also earned the Harvard BOK Higher Education Teaching Certificate from Harvard University in September 2023. Filipe completed the Bridge Reviewer Program of the prestigious Academy of Management Review (AMR) journal under the mentorship of Professor Paul Gouvard in June 2024. Plus, Filipe has been recognized as an Outstanding Reviewer for the Strategic Management (STR) Division at the 2024 Academy of Management (AOM) Annual Meeting in Chicago for his developmental and high-quality reviews and his significant efforts to serve the STR division.
