Maria Lurdes Barrela Patricio Gano. Lurdes Gano graduated in Pharmacy by Faculdade de Farmácia, Universidade de Lisboa(FFUL) in 1984 and has got a PhD in Pharmacy (Pharmaceutical Chemistry) in 2000, also at FFUL, under the supervision of Dr. L. Patrício and Prof S. Mather with specialization in the field of Radiolabelled Monoclonal Antibodies and Receptor Specific Peptides. In 1985, Lurdes Gano was engaged as a research trainee at the research institute Laboratório Nacional de Engenharia e Tecnologia Industrial (LNETI). Since then, her academic and scientific career was developed in the field of Radiopharmaceutical Sciences as: Research assistant from 1990 ¿ 2000 at LNETI/ INETI; Auxiliary investigator 2000 ¿ 2021 at Instituto Tecnológico e Nuclear (ITN). Currently, is Principal Investigator at C2TN and DECN from IST. Her domain of research has been focused in the development of biospecific radiopharmaceuticals for molecular imaging and systemic targeted therapy in Nuclear Medicine. Research activities have been mostly centered on the radiolabelling of antibodies, peptides and small molecules with different radionuclides and subsequent radiochemical, in vitro and in vivo stability and biological evaluation as specific radioactive probes for theranostics. In the past few years, she has been involved in the synthesis, characterization and biological evaluation of In/111In-based compounds aiming their application for targeted radiotherapy of estrogen receptor expressing tumors. To achieve that goal two different classes of biomolecules have been explored estradiol-based and peptides based on the LXXLL motif. As part of a long-time experience on radiochemical and biological assessment of radiopharmaceuticals, her main scientific activities are related with the preclinical evaluation of radioactive compounds and nanoplatforms (micelles, lipossomes and gold nanoparticles) to assess their potential interest for molecular imaging, systemic targeted therapy or targeted drug delivery. Such studies are mostly based on cell culture assays and imaging, biodistribution and biokinetics studies in small animal models, namely: receptor binding affinity studies; citotoxicity and cellular uptake/internalization and efflux studies of radioactive compounds; ex-vivo biodistribution, in vivo stability, metabolization and pharmacokinetics studies of radiometal complexes and radioiodinated compounds in experimental small animal models (healthy and disease models as infection or tumour-bearing animals). Author of 117 papers in international peer review journals (more than 65% in Q1 journals) with a total of 1800 citations and 37 papers published as proceedings of refereed conferences in the scientific domain of Chemical and Radiopharmaceutical Sciences. Within the framework of the divulgation of results has more than 175 communication, 55 of them as oral, in international meetings. The h-index is 27.
