Luís Oliveira obtained his PhD in Biomedical Engineering on November 4, 2014 at the Faculty of Engineering of Porto University, his MSc in Biomedical Engineering in 2007 at the Faculty of Engineering of Porto University and his graduation in Physics in 2000 at the Faculty of Sciences from Porto University. He is an Adjunct Professor at eh Physics Department of the Polytechnic of Porto – School of Engineering. He has published 40 scientific papers, 1 book, 13 book chapters and 15 conference papers. He has 2 patents, one in Portugal and a second in the Russian Federation. His research is in the field of Biophotonics and Biomedical Engineering, with particular interest in the estimation of tissue optical properties and the application of optical transparency effects in tissues to improve and develop new diagnostic or treatment procedures based on light technologies. He has used spectroscopy measurements to obtain physiological data that can discriminate cancer. The technology described in his patents regards the artificial creation of transparency windows in the ultraviolet spectral range, which can be used for food quality inspection and diagnostic or treatment procedures in vivo.
