Pedro Simão Mendes is a Science Communication Manager at the Center for Psychological Research and Social Intervention (CIS-Iscte), where he bridges the gap between science and society by sharing psychological research findings in different formats, platforms and events. With a background in Cognitive Psychology, he served as guest professor at the Lusófona University of Porto (2021) and at the University of Minho (2021-2022), teaching curricular units to Psychology undergrads. He developed an interest in the field of Science Communication, being selected for the International Summer School "Communicating Science" organized by the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation and Wissenschaft im Dialog (Berlin, 2021). He recently completed the specialization course on ‘Innovation and Digital Creativity’, learning design thinking, entrepreneurship, digital marketing, and creativity skills that he applies in his practice. He holds a PhD in Basic Psychology by the University of Minho (2021) and a master's degree in Psychology by the University of Minho (2015). Additionally, he earned a master's degree in Psychology of Neurocognitive Processes and Affective Sciences by the University of Lille (France, 2015) through an exchange program. His work in Psychology has primarily focused on Basic Cognitive Processes, with research topics that include the effects of repeated testing in educational settings (master's degree) and the monitoring of word learning through learning judgments in a laboratory context (doctorate). He has published various articles in specialized journals as first author and received an international award by the Psychonomic Society to present his work "Word frequency and judgments of learning: The role of (in)congruent prompts" at the Psychonomics International meeting (Amsterdam, 2018). His research interests include human behavior and memory, with a special fondness about strategies to improve learning. Advocating for scientific literacy that is accessible to all, Pedro is now interested in integrating innovative methods to promote learning through effective evidence-based science communication.
