Pedro Jorge Martins Coelho graduated in Mechanical Engineering (1984), obtained a Master's degree in Energy Transfer and Conversion (1988), a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering (1992) and the Habilitation (Agregação) in Mechanical Engineering (2005). All these degrees were obtained at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) / Universidade Técnica de Lisboa (presently Universidade de Lisboa). He has been affiliated with IST since 1984 and full Professor since 2016. He has been the head of the Mechanical Engineering Department since 2017. He supervised 4 PhD theses and co-supervised 4. He supervised or co-supervised about 50 MSc dissertations. and 15 final bachelor work(s). He has taught courses on Computational Mechanics, Heat Transfer and Combustion, among others. He was a member of about 50 Ph.D. committees and a few habilitation committees, both in Portugal and abroad. His main research topics are thermal radiation, the modelling of radiative heat transfer in emitting-absorbing-scattering media, turbulence/radiation interaction, the modelling of turbulent diffusion flames and industrial combustion equipment and mild combustion. He has participated in about 30 projects, most of them sponsored by the Portuguese Science Foundation and by the European Union. He was the principal investigator in about 1/3 of them. He published about 110 articles in international journals, most of them ranked as Q1 or Q2 in Scopus, and presented about 150 papers at international conferences. He is coauthor of a textbook on Combustion (in Portuguese) and 2 book chapters. He is associate editor of the Int. J. Thermal Sciences (since 2017), J. Quantitative Spectroscopy and Radiative Transfer (since 2012), Heat Transfer Research (since 2020) and Computational Thermal Sciences (since 2023). He is a member of the editorial board of the Int. J. of Energy for a Clean Environment (since 2007) and section¿I2: Energy and Combustion Science¿ of Energies (since 2021). He has reviewed articles for more than 100 international journals. He received two first prizes and two honourable mentions from the University of Lisbon (sponsored by Santander Totta or Caixa Geral de Depósitos) for the scientific publications in international journals. The 9th Int. Symposium on Radiative Transfer, Athens, 3-7 June, 2019 was dedicated to him and Dr. Fengshan Liu for their significant contributions to the international radiation transfer community. He delivered 15 keynote lectures at international conferences, 9 seminars at several universities abroad and lectures at 4 workshops or courses abroad. He was a member of the scientific committee of more than 80 international conferences and a member of the organizing committee of 16, among which he was the chair or co-chair of 9. He is a member of the Scientific Council (since 2006), member of the Assembly (since 2010) and member of the Executive Committee of ICHMT - International Centre of Heat and Mass Transfer (since 2015). He was the chair of the Executive Committee of ICHMT in 2021-2022 and vice-chair in 2020 and 2023, and a member of the Honors & Awards Committee of ICHMT in 2018-2023. He is also a member of the Assembly for International Heat Transfer Conferences (since 2006), member of the Assembly of the World Conference (AWC) on Experimental Heat Transfer, Fluid Mechanics, and Thermodynamics (since 2009) and member of Eurotherm Committee for the Advancement of Thermal Sciences and Heat Transfer (since 2010) and secretary of Eurotherm since 2017.
