Dário Alexandre Martins Trindade

I graduated in Applied Biology and completed a Master degree in Molecular Genetics at the University of Minho (UM), Portugal. In 2010, I was awarded a grant from Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian to complete my PhD in Environmental and Molecular Biology ¿ Cellular and Health Biology / Biochemistry, in a collaboration program between the Universities of Minho and Bordeaux (UB, France). In 2014 I was awarded a research grant at the Centro de Biologia Molecular e Ambiental (CBMA ¿ UM) and, in 2017, after a pause in my scientific carrier, I joined the Institute of Biomedicine (iBiMED) from the University of Aveiro (UA, Portugal) as a post-doctoral researcher in project pAGE (Centro -01-0145-FEDER-000003), until February 2021. Recently, I joined the group of Professor Sandra Vieira (Spark Lab) to work on the project "GoBack - new therapeutic targets for spinal cord injury" as a research fellow. My research has focused on different subjects: cellular and molecular biology approach to study Bcl-2 family proteins and mechanisms regulating cell death using model systems, neurosciences and the clinical study of aging and protein aggregation. This multidisciplinary experience gave me vast expertise in the field of cellular and molecular biology and biochemistry. My work had a decisive contribution to the publication of seven peer-reviewed papers (most in Q1 journals), five of which in the last five years, including recently published works on the aggregation profile of human plasma proteins with aging, the impact of chemokines in Tau phosphorylation using neuronal models and the role of plasma exosomes as a source of biomarkers for Alzheimer's disease. I´m currently involved in the creation of a spinal cord injury patient cohort and in the supervision of a MSc student, while tutoring another one. I have contributed to the early-stage development of young researchers with the practical supervision of 2 other MSc students, participated in evaluation committees of final UA-funded BSc projects and of 3 MSc thesis, and applied for individual and research funding. I also acquired teaching experience as a tutor in problem-based learning classes and participated in science dissemination activities, specifically directed to the younger public.
