Sara Pinheiro has a degree (2008), a master's degree (2010) and a PhD in Educational Sciences (2020) from the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of the University of Porto (FPCEUP). She is also an accredited trainer in the following areas: Education for Citizenship (Intercultural Education), Relations between Education and Society and Design and Organisation of Educational Projects by the Scientific and Pedagogical Council for Continuing Education (CCPFC). She has published 14 scientific articles in indexed journals. She co-authors two books: one on the European and youth sense of belonging and the other entitled In Roma and Education: Collaborative Research and Knowledge Co-production Practices. She is also co-organiser of two other books. She has presented and participated in more than 30 oral presentations at national and international scientific events, some of them by invitation. She has been a member of the organising committees of 13 scientific events. She completed her doctoral project, funded by the FCT (PD/BD/105705/2014), with a doctoral thesis entitled ‘European Citizenship: What do I want it for? Meanings of national and European citizenship for young people from non-dominant ethnic groups in a Portuguese school’. This thesis resulted in a four-year scholarship, the publication of scientific articles, the award of an ECER Emerging Researchers Prize and a research internship in Brazil. Since 2024, she has been a researcher on the SCIREARLY Project - Policies and Practices Based on Scientific Research for Reducing Underachievement and Early School Leaving in Europe, funded by the European Commission through the Horizon Europe Programme (call HORIZON-CL2-2021-TRANSFORMATIONS-01), which is being developed at CIIE - Centre for Educational Research and Intervention. Between 2023 and early 2024, she was a researcher at CIPES - Higher Education Policy Research Centre. Between 2021 and 2023, she was a researcher on the ClimActiC: Connecting Citizenship and Science project [NORTE-01-0145-FEDER-000071], with funding of over 500,000 euros, at the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of the University of Porto. In 2021, she was a researcher on the EduCig Project - Educational Achievements among Roma: Research Action and co-design project at ISCTE [PTDC/CEDG-EDG/30175/2017]. She worked as a research fellow on the project ‘GROW.UP - Growing up in border regions in Portugal: Young people, pathways and educational agendas at the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of the University of Porto. In 2014, she was a research intern at the European Project Building Pillars with Education, Culture and Citizenship. She works in the areas of Social Sciences, with an emphasis on Education Sciences. She has 12 years of experience in educational sciences research, in funded projects that combine dimensions such as intercultural education, social justice and equity, crossing issues related to citizenship education, European citizenship and diversity in educational contexts, namely ethnic, social, cultural and social class differences. At the same time, she has also been a trainer in citizenship education, namely in adaptation to climate change, diversity, and school success for Roma pupils, migrants, refugees, and those in situations of greater vulnerability for teachers and other technicians. She is also a member of the ODEC - Observatory for Sport, Education and Communities, which is part of the CIIE, accompanied by and monitoring projects that link education, sport, and the environment, taking social inclusion into account. She has contributed to scientific dissemination by publishing scientific articles, book chapters, national and international communications and organising scientific events on these themes. She has worked as an evaluator of Portuguese higher education courses and internal quality assurance systems at the National Agency for the Evaluation and Accreditation of Higher Education(A3ES).
