Inês Mendes Preguiça is a PhD student enrolled at Health Sciences Program from The Faculty of Medicine of the University of Coimbra, after being awarded a fully funded FCT PhD grant (2020.08560.BD) with the project "A voluntary semi-solid PILL approach for rodent drug dosing - 3R's in motion". Previously, she was a research fellow at the Coimbra Institute for Clinical and Biomedical Research (iCBR) from Faculty of Medicine of University of Coimbra, in the scope of the project HEALTHYAGING 2020 (CENTRO-01-0145-FEDER-000012)] focus on therapeutic and nutraceutic strategies to target age-related diseases. She completed her master's degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology in 2017, at the Faculty of Science and Technology from University of Coimbra, following a bachelor's degree in Cellular and Molecular Biology in 2014, at the NOVA School of Science and Technology from NOVA University of Lisbon. During the last 2 years she have been involved in several preclinical and clinical research projects, including the FRUTIFY - Use of blueberry juice as a nutraceutical strategy targeting gut dysbiosis to prevent the progression from prediabetes to diabetes [PTDC/SAU-NUT/31712/2017], funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT), and the ¿Remielinization promoting strategies for an animal model of Multiple Sclerosis¿ [INOVC2020-SAAC-CENTRO-46-2016-01-5625], funded by a Ignition Grant on innovation by INOVC 2020. In the scope of the latter, she has been thoroughly involved in the development of a project, under a confidentiality agreement, related with a ¿Semi-solid formulation for voluntary oral administration of bioactive compounds¿, which is currently under European patent registration evaluation process (Application nº PCT/IB2021/053124). Actually, Inês Preguiça main current scientific interests lie on the characterize of the full potential of a technology aiming to improve animal welfare, using animal models with challenging conditions, which was the basis for the FCT PhD Grant application from April 2020. She has attended training in Animal Laboratory Sciences, being certified by DGAV (the National Authority for Regulation of Animal Research) with A+B Function for manipulation and design of experimental protocols. She performed poster and oral presentations in national and international meetings, including in the 2022 Annual Meeting of Portuguese Society of Pharmacology (SPF) and in the 2019 Congress of the Federation of European Laboratory Animal Science Associations (FELASA), held in Prague. Until now, Inês Preguiça was (co)author of 3 full-papers published in international peer-reviewed journals, being first author in 2 of them. Inês Preguiça is a communicative, responsible person, with a marked civic sense, who have been often participated in science communication activities.
