João Mazeda completed his bachelor's in Bioengineering in 2020 at Universidade Católica Portuguesa Escola Superior de Biotecnologia (ESB-UCP) and his Master's in Biomedical Engineering in 2022 at Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto (FEUP). During his degrees, he presented a poster, participated in various events, and helped in organizing 3 others. He developed his master's thesis at the Institute for Research and Innovation in Health (i3S) under the scope of a project developed in collaboration with IPO-Porto and funded by FCT (TRIMARKCHIP). He focused on the development of novel microfluidic platforms for the detection and isolation of circulating tumor biomarkers for lung cancer management. The main outputs of his thesis work include the identification of novel biomarkers in lung cancer circulating tumor cells (PPA: PT 119401), and a pending paper in the finishing stages. He then ventured abroad for an internship at the Applied Stem Cells Group (AST) from the University of Twente, where he helped on a project integrated into the LymphChip consortium, focusing on the development of microvascular networks to be implemented into organ-on-chip systems. He is currently a Researcher at the COMPASS Research group- CICECO from the University of Aveiro, where he is part of the European project "PRInted Symbiotic Materials as a dynamic platform for Living Tissues production".
