Maria João Fraqueza completed her PhD in Veterinary Science in 2006 at the University of Lisbon, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. She currently holds the position of Associate Professor with Habilitation in Food Safety at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Lisbon, where she teaches Food Technology in the Integrated Master of Veterinary Medicine. Additionally, she serves as the coordinator of the Master in Food Safety at the same institution. Her research interests focus on optimizing and innovating technological processes to enhance the quality and safety of traditional meat products, with a specific emphasis on emerging technologies such as biopreservation, high hydrostatic pressure, and pulse light. She coordinated the GO-77 Safemeatprod project and has led research on the quality and safety of poultry meat, particularly regarding Campylobacter. Maria has also participated in the CYTED network "PRODUCTOS CÁRNICOS MÁS SALUDABLES" (HEALTHY MEAT). Now she participates in a Horizon project INNOECOFOOD related with safety certification in aquaculture and innovation of fish based products with bioactive peptides and spirulina. She is a specialist and auditor of quality, food safety, and IDI management systems. She was awarded in 2020 by the Lisbon University in the field of Veterinary Sciences. With over 260 international and national publications, including book chapters and articles, Maria's work can be explored further through the Orcid or Scopus database, where her h-index is 27.
