Vanessa Guimarães is a Junior Researcher at the Chemistry Department of the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP, Portugal), as well as member of the Laboratory for Process Engineering, Environment, Biotechnology and Energy (LEPABE) and member of the Chemistry Centre of Vila Real (CQVR). She graduated in Chemistry in 2008, and received her M.Sc. degree in Chemistry from Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto, in 2010. Her Ph.D. project was developed in collaboration with the Laboratory of Waste Management at Paul Scherrer Institute (LES-PSI, Switzerland), and was concluded in 2016. It was focused on the potential use of different geomaterials for the confinement of radionuclides in a waste repository, as well as, for the treatment of contaminated radioactive wastewaters. From 2016-2018, her research was mainly focused on the field of nanocomposites based on natural geomaterials: Study of clay mineral properties and development of heterogeneous catalysts, based on its metal doped nanocomposites, for the application on photo-oxidation processes in the treatment of winery wastewaters. Since 2019, Vanessa is involved in the Project VOCAdvanced which intends to develop metal/carbon supported catalysts for the simultaneous treatment of gas and liquid effluents containing Volatile Organic Compounds by Advanced Oxidation Processes. Vanessa has collaborated in over 5 research projects funded by both National and European funds. She is the author of over 12 JCR-indexed papers, 2 book chapters and over 20 publications/proceedings in scientific meetings, and invited speaker in several scientific/technical seminars. She was member of the evaluation committee of relevant scientific conferences and is an expert reviewer of high-impact journals. Vanessa was invited as lecturer for different graduation courses at the University of Porto, and has supervised several master students.
