Tainá Fonseca is a post-doctoral researcher at the Centre for Marine and Environmental Research (CIMA) of the University of Algarve - Portugal, where she obtained her PhD in Marine, Earth and Environmental Sciences (2019), focused in Marine Pollution and Ecotoxicology. T. Fonseca research pertains to assess the ecotoxicological impacts caused by emerging contaminants, namely nanoparticles, micro/nanoplastics and pharmaceuticals, in the marine biota. Currently, her research priorities have been devoted to develop a transdisciplinary approach in the scope of the metadiscipline Oceans and Human Health, in an attempt to unravel the complex linkages of the marine pollution caused by pharmaceuticals and the potential risks posed to human health. Her scientific career interests are transversal to initiatives to spread awareness with societal repercussion, based on Ocean literacy, to shed light on public perception on how marine pollution affects not only the health of marine life but also, human health, particularly via food intake. Her research line is in consonance with the Sustainable Development Goals set by UN, such as the SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being) and 14 (Life Below Water), also in view of the Ocean Decade Challenges. T. Fonseca has taken part in national and international R&D projects, namely: the international Mining Impact II (JPIOCEANS/FCT/0001/2017); EMERGEMIX (PTDC/BIA-BMA/30922/2017); PLASTICSEA (FA_06_2017_046).
