Teresa Silva

Teresa Botelho is an Associate Professor of American Studies at the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences, Nova University of Lisbon, Portugal who retired in 2023. She holds a PhD. and a Master's Degree from Cambridge University and did her undergraduate studies at the University of Lisbon. She also attended a number of independent courses and seminars at New York University, Harvard University and Berkley University. At the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities she was the coordinator of the Master¿s Program in Modern Literatures and Cultures (2010-2013) and of the Undergraduate Course in Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultures (2015- 2021). At CETAPS she is a member of the research area Mapping Utopianisms and convener of the strand American Intersections of the research area Anglophone cultures . She was President of the Portuguese Association of English and American Studies ( 2016 -2021) and member of the Board of The European Association for American Studies (EAAS) and of European Society for the Study of English (ESSE) during the same period. She is a member of The Society for Utopian Studies / Europe, of the Challenging Precarity Global Network, of Rihua, the Ibero-American Network of Environmental Humanities, and of the European Association for the Study of Literature, Culture and the Environment (EASLCE). She is a member of the Editorial Board of JAST (Journal of American Studies in Turkey) and of OP.Cit (Journal of the Portuguese Association for Anglo-American Studies. She has published extensively on African American, Arab-American and Asian American culture and literature, theater and drama, science fiction and dystopian literature, technological utopias/dystopias and the post-human, visual culture and cinema, literary and visual representations of 9/11, refugee literature and climate change fiction. Her university extension activities include colaboration with the National Theater, participation in literary open sessions at the National Library and bookshops, organization of summer courses and partipation in news outlets as commentator of US politics.
