Laura Oliveira is an Assistant Professor (Biochem., PhD) at the Department of Immunophysiology and Pharmacology, ICBAS/U.Porto, and an integrated researcher member of MedInUP/Rise Health. Laura's early research interests centered on unraveling the intricate cellular signaling interactions between the purinergic and muscarinic systems at the neuromuscular junction and adressing the impact of purinergic signaling on immune and neuromuscular deficits in Myasthenia Gravis. Currently, Laura research interests focus on the role of purinergic (P2X7R and A2AR) receptores, ATP-metabolizing enzymes and related biomarkers in immune and central nervous system (CNS) dysfunction in neonatal and elderly sepsis. Her research aims to uncover the mechanisms through which purinergic signaling influences sepsis induced brain dysfunction, with the goal of identifying novel biomarkers and pharmacological targets for better diagnosis and treatment.
