Ana Filipe completed her BSc in Biotechnology in 2022 and her MSc in Molecular Biotechnology and Bioengenering in 2023, both at the University of Aveiro. During her academic path she has participated in projects that integrate different disciplinary areas, creating novel alternatives for biomedical applications. In her BSc final project, “Síntese de Conjugados Porfirina-Trifenilfosfónio e Estudo das Propriedades Fotossensibilizadoras na Fotoinativação de Microrganismos”, graded of 17 out of 20, the work was carried out in tandem with the chemistry and biology departments, where she developed and characterized porphyrynic compounds and tested their suitability as photosensitizers in antimicrobial photodynamic therapy. For her MSc thesis, “Produção de um Aerossol Antimicrobiano com base num Extrato de Própolis”, graded 19 out of 20, which involved the chemistry, material and ceramics engineering, and biology departments, as well as Colep Consumer Products, a leading company in manufacturing services, developing a propolis extract through eutectic solvents, evaluating its chemical, physical properties, and antibacterial properties, and the creation of a functional prototype aerosol as proof of concept, which is currently pending patent. This allowed Ana to enrich her skillset in different domains, such as microbiology, material engineering, chemical engineering, biomedicine, and a wide variety of related techniques, while cultivating an ability to learn, adapt and work in different research groups, and other essential skills, such as communication, teamwork and problem-solving. Ana has also participated in several workshops and scientific evens to further enrich the scope of her knowledge.
