Cassamo U. Mussagy earned his BSc and MSc degree in Biology Sciences (2013) and Industrial Biotechnology (2015), respectively, at University of Oriente (Cuba). In 2021, he got the dual doctoral degree in Chemical Engineering and Bioscience and Biotechnology Applied to Pharmacy under a cotutelle agreement with the University of Aveiro (Portugal) and Sao Paulo State University (Brazil). He was a postdoctoral fellow (2021-2022) at University of Sao Paulo (Brazil) with Prof. Adalberto Pessoa Jr. Currently, his work is focused on the development of biotechnological processes with emphasis on yeast-based fermentation, production, separation and purification of natural pigments (using ionic liquids, eutectic solvents and biosolvents), such as astaxanthin and other natural colorants; focusing on the integration and scale-up of separation processes.
