I am Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (2002, University of São Paulo), Master of Science (2006, University of São Paulo; development of a chemosensitivity assay using primary cell cultures of mast cell tumours); Postgraduate in Pharmaceutical Medicine - Clinical Research (2011, University of Aveiro); Ph.D. in Veterinary Sciences in February 2018 at the University of Porto, Instituto de Ciências Biomédicas Abel Salazar (ICBAS) (Comparative - Canine and Human - Environmental Cancer - Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma - Epidemiology) and Postdoctoral Fellow (2020) at the same institution. Currently, I am an Associate Professor of Veterinary Epidemiology and Public Health at ICBAS (since 2019), an Associate Researcher in the Epidemiology Research Unit (EPIUnit) at ISPUP (since 2018) and in the Integrative and Translational Research in Population Health -ITR (One Health Applications Lab). I am also responsible for science and technology management at Vet-OncoNet, a project held by the ICBAS Board, since December 2019. Along the way, I have published 10 articles in peer-reviewed journals (two more in review), two book chapters, and an Animal Cancer Report. I have co-supervised 1 MSc Public Health dissertation and am currently supervising two MSc projects (Oncology and Veterinary Sciences). In 2019, at the invitation of and in collaboration with Prof. Maria Lúcia Zaidan Dagli, we launched an international initiative - the Global Initiative for Veterinary Cancer Surveillance (GIVCS), which aims to promote international collaboration in cancer surveillance and research in animals. Through conferences (2019, 2020 and 2022) and future workshops (2022) and as General Coordinator, I am mainly responsible for the overall organization of the group, project manager, web implementation and member of the scientific committee. I was a successful candidate for the IARC (International Agency for Research in Cancer, WHO) Summer School, Introduction to Cancer Epidemiology module, which has greatly enhanced my career in the field. Recently, I completed the University Teachers Course at the University of Porto. It is comprehensive training that has provided me with the knowledge and tools for my teaching career in more than 80 hours. Active and independent learning is a constant task that I complete with some courses such as Epidemiology in Public Health Practise (Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, Coursera), Power Bi for Data Science, Python, RStudio (Data Science Academy), and Financial Market. My focus and passion are on animal cancer epidemiology, data science, data analysis, One Health, and most importantly, the commitment to pass on the knowledge acquired to students.
