I am a post-doctoral researcher with extensive expertise in Biological Sciences. I have been awarded with undergraduate degree in biology (2007), MSc degree in Molecular Cell Biology and Genetics with specialization in Microbiology (2008) and PhD in Biology (2015) from the University of Valencia (Spain). During this academic path, I had the opportunity to work in different research groups, which enabled me to broaden my scientific interests, expertise and to establish fruitful collaborations. I initiated my scientific career in 2005 as a student in the laboratory of Molecular Taxonomy in the IATA-CSIC (Valencia-Spain), under the supervision of Dr. Rosa Aznar, initially on a volunteer basis and later supported by three Research Scholarships and one PhD grant, which were all awarded through competitive calls. The experimental and analytical workflow of my PhD thesis was developed in the IATA-CSIC (Dr. Rosa Aznar, supervisor) in direct collaboration with several national and international reference centers of microbiology (Dr. Paloma López, co-supervisor; CIB-CSIC, Madrid-Spain). My doctoral research focused on the use of acid lactic bacteria (LAB) derived dextrans as antivirals, and LAB as probiotics to fight fish pathogens. In 2014, I joined the group of Energy Metabolism and Drug Development (CIB-CSIC, Madrid) lead by Dr. Luis Rivas to investigate the leishmanicidal activity and mechanisms of action of anti-parasitic drugs. My scientific career was interrupted in 2018 due to maternity leave. Since September 2019 until now, I am working in the FISH Group lead by Dr. Nuno F. Azevedo (LEPABE-FEUP, Porto), whose main area of interest is the detection of microorganisms through in situ hybridization employing nucleic acid mimics (NAMs). I am currently optimizing a new colorimetric nucleic acid mimic method for the specific detection of Legionella by using biotinylated NAM probes (COLOR-ISH project, https://www.fish-feup.pt/projects/color-ish) under the supervision of Dr. Laura Cerqueira. My scientific output includes 10 published articles in international peer review Q1- and Q2-journals (SCI), as well as a patent (first author) and 5 book chapters, summing up to a total of 267 citations (h-index 8; Google Scholar 2021). Other manuscripts are in preparation for submission. Also, I have contributed to 40 communications presented in conferences (14 oral; 26 poster), either national (26) or international (14). Overall, I have been part of 15 research projects, where I undertook different roles and responsibilities, from technician to post-doc and in many instances assisting MSc students in methodological and analytical approaches. I am now at a career stage where I have gained the competencies and maturity to successfully lead a challenging project in the area of Biological Sciences.
