Bachelor's degree in Bioengineering, currently in the final stage of my Master's in Biotechnology for Health Sciences at the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro. Throughout my academic journey, I have developed a solid interdisciplinary foundation that integrates biology, chemistry, engineering, and programming, providing a comprehensive and applied perspective on health sciences. During my undergraduate studies, I deepened my theoretical knowledge in areas such as genetics, human development, and physiology. Additionally, I was introduced to programming courses that provided me with basic theoretical concepts in this field. These courses allowed me to develop an initial understanding of computational logic and problem-solving, which were essential for integrating bioinformatics into my academic and professional path. I also explored, at a theoretical level, how materials and chemical compounds can contribute to improving quality of life, merging engineering and chemistry concepts to visualize innovative and practical solutions. At the Master's level, I have further expanded my theoretical knowledge in various areas. In parasitology, I studied the biology of parasites and their impact on human health. In medical biotechnology and nanotechnology, I analyzed how materials can be modified and applied at the nanoscale to develop more effective and targeted therapies, reducing side effects. Additionally, I further explored cellular dynamics, cancer genetics, and the mechanisms of cellular deregulation, gaining a detailed theoretical understanding of complex diseases such as cancer and potential therapeutic approaches. Currently, in my Master's thesis, I am studying the neurodegenerative disorder Machado-Joseph disease. My research focuses on analyzing the serotonin receptor LGC-50 in C. elegans to determine its homology and potential orthology with the human 5-HT3R receptor. To support these structural and functional analyses, I utilize bioinformatics tools such as HHpred and PyMOL. Additionally, I apply advanced laboratory techniques, including CRISPR-Cas9, to create experimental models and study the role of this receptor in different biological contexts. My academic background and research experience have provided me with a broad and interdisciplinary perspective, combined with technical skills and a foundation in programming. This allows me to approach scientific and technological challenges in bioinformatics and biotechnology in an innovative and well-grounded manner.
