Bruno Guimarães graduated in 2018, in Materials Engineering (Integrated Master) at the University of Minho with a master thesis entitled "Production and characterization of cutting tools obtained by laser technology". In November 2018, he became a research fellow on the project POCI-01-0145-FEDER-030353, named "Smart designed cutting tools by Multi-Material Selective Laser Melting/Sintering", in the Center for MicroElectroMechanical Systems (CMEMS) at the University of Minho. In January of 2024, he obtained is PhD in Mechanical Engineering at CMEMS-UMinho with the project title “Multi-functional WC-Co cutting tool - a Multi-Material Engineering Design” (FCT PhD fellow - 2020.07155.BD). Currently, he works at Palbit S.A. as R&D Engineer/R&D Project Manager, being his investigation focused on the development of novel solutions for the cutting tools industry, having expertise in cemented carbide cutting tools, powder metallurgy, and additive manufacturing and laser surface modification of different materials. He published 16 papers in ISI Web of Science journals (h-index of 7), supervised 2 master thesis and participated in several national and international conferences. He is also member of the research group Center for MicroElectroMechanical Systems (CMEMS-UMinho), having collaborated in several projects financed by FCT.
