Abdallah G. Mahmoud is a postdoctoral researcher at Centro de Química Estrutural (CQE), Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), University of Lisbon (UL), Portugal. He graduated from Helwan University (Cairo, Egypt) in May 2009, as the top student in the division of Chemistry and Applied Chemistry, with an accumulative qualification of “Excellent with the Rank of Honour.” He then worked as a chemist at the Fluid Catalytic Cracking (FCC) unit, at the Middle East Oil Refinery (MidOR, Alexandria, Egypt) for three years (2009-2012), after which he started his academic career by working as an assistant researcher at the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, Helwan University. He was awarded a European grant (Erasmus Mundus Mobility Exchange Program) for MSc study for 10 months (09/2012-07/2013) at IST, UL, and earned his MSc degree in Applied Chemistry in May 2014. In a competitive international call, he was awarded a PhD fellowship by the CATSUS PhD program funded by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT), Portugal, where he developed homogeneous catalytic systems in an aqueous medium. A part of his PhD work was performed at the Faculty of Chemistry, Wroclaw University (Poland). In January 2019, he was awarded the PhD degree with the final highest qualification of “Pass with Distinction and Honour” from IST and then got a position as a postdoc researcher at CQE, with a contract as a part of a joint project with Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia, Universidade NOVA de Lisboa, funded by FCT. In February 2020, he got a position as a researcher and lecturer at Helwan University, where he gave lectures in several under- and post-graduate courses in chemistry and chemical engineering at the faculties of science and engineering, respectively. In October 2021, he returned to CQE as a postdoc researcher with a fellowship grant awarded from Associação do Instituto Superior Técnico para a Investigação e Desenvolvimento (IST-ID). Research interests: Synthetic and structural coordination chemistry; Homogeneous catalysis in aqueous medium using coordination compounds; Heterogeneous catalysis using metal@carbon nanocomposites.
