Graduated in Chemistry by the University of Alicante in 1995, by then I had already obtained two scholarships of public competition for research initiation. Later I did my Doctoral Thesis at the Institute of Molecular and Cellular Biology (IBMC) of the Miguel Hernández University (UMH), enjoying an FPI scholarship in a national public competition. In that period, I made a stay at the Lisbon Higher Technical Institute (IST). Before finishing my Doctoral Thesis, in 2001, I joined the UMH as an Assistant Professor, and as a researcher at the IBMC of the same university. From 2014 I am an Associate Professor at the same institution. During this period, I have participated in the research team of all the projects of Dr. José Manuel González Ros, all of them of national public competition (17). In two of them, I have been co-IP. Furthermore, outside these projects, I have collaborated with other researchers inside and outside the UMH. I also want to highlight the achievement through an international public competition of an Embo (European Molecular Biology Organism) scholarship, to carry out a 3-month postdoctoral stay in Dr. Prieto's laboratory at the IST in Lisbon, Portugal. Through grants with a national competition, I have carried out two postdoctoral research stays: one of six months at the prestigious laboratory of Dr. Schwille, in the "Biotechnologisches zentrum", Dresden, Germany; and another four months in Dr. Zabaleta's laboratory, at the "Center for Biological Research", Mar del Plata, Argentina. The results of all this activity are the numerous communications to prestigious conferences, as well as book chapters (5) and articles in international scientific journals with a high impact index (35). All this research activity has been recognized with the positive evaluation of 3 six-year terms (1998 to 2015) by the CNEAI. This activity has also been recognized to me, by being invited to be part of the court of several doctoral theses, as a reviewer in different international journals indexed in the JCR, as well as an external evaluator of projects in public calls of the "National Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada", "Discovery grants" program. The lines of research that I have followed so far have been linked to structure-function studies in two membrane proteins, nicotinic acetylcholine receptor, and the potassium channel KcsA. In both cases, these are model systems from which to infer the mechanisms of action of the ion channel superfamily, involved in fundamental processes at the physiological and pathological level. The study of the modulation of these channels, especially by the lipid membrane in which they are found, has also been a common denominator in my career. Due to the environment in which I find myself at the IBMC, with a great tendency to translate results, my research is not only oriented to basic aspects of science, but also to more immediate applications through the identification of possible pharmacological targets at the ion channels. The techniques that I have had to handle during all this time range from those in the field of biochemistry, such as electrophoresis and chromatography, to those of biophysics, such as fluorescence, absorption, and infrared spectroscopies, or electrophysiology, giving me versatility and a comprehensive vision of the problems we face in the different research projects
