Fábio Manuel Gouveia Amaral is a Portuguese biologist currently working with the BIOPOLIS - CIBIO-InBio association. He graduated from the University of Minho with a degree in Applied Biology and later, in 2022, with a master's degree in Ecology also from the same university. During his master's degree, he developed a thesis in which, using molecular methods, he optimised tools for the early detection of non-indigenous species of marine invertebrates in northern Portugal. He currently collaborates in the applied ecology group at CIBIO, Portugal, where he works with eDNA metabarcoding in different national and international projects. Thanks to his work, he has participated in numerous international conferences and congresses, as well as presenting posters and oral communications, and in different scientific expeditions with different objectives in different areas such as Transylvania, Angola and Mexico. Currently his main area of focus is Ecology, Biogeography and Molecular Biology through the study of eDNA metabarcoding in the detection of species, characterisation of habitats and ecosystems, compilation of reference libraries and the development, advancement and optimisation of molecular tools in the study of aquatic eDNA.
