Renata S. Tavares has completed her PhD in Cell Biology in 2014 at the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra, Portugal. After spending some time abroad during her PhD and second post-doc (UK and USA), she has taken the position of Invited Assistant Professor at the Department of Life Sciences at the Faculty of Sciences and Technology of the University of Coimbra (FCTUC) since 2021/2022 where she teaches Biochemistry, Analytical Biochemistry Labs, Introduction to Biochemistry Labs, Cellular and Molecular Biology, Differentiation and Development and Biology of Reproduction to undergraduate and master students. Since 2023 she is also a Value-Based Healthcare project manager at Health Cluster Portugal. She is a researcher working in the Biology of Reproduction and Stem Cells Group at CNC/CIBB, where she also established the Contraception, Endocrine Disruptors and Fertility group in 2018/19. She has authored 9 book chapters (3 as first and 1 as last author) and 27 peer-reviewed scientific papers (13 as first and 5 as last author) apart from at least 10 conference proceedings and outreach publications, including a book chapter promoting literacy in health. As Guest Editor at the International Journal of Endocrinology she has organized and published at least one special issue in 2020 and is currently reviewer of several international journals. She actively participates in Science Communication activities and in the organization of meetings of the field, besides attending and talk in several national and international conferences. She has been involved in 10 projects so far, and was the PI of 3, one as the Study Director and PI of preclinical studies related with Contraception for Pharma Companies and two focusing on the effects of environmental pollution in human reproductive function. She has supervised 2 masters students, 4 research fellows and is currently the supervisor of 2 PhD students. She has won 6 awards/fellowships so far and her work has been disseminated in national radio interviews and newspaper articles. She works in Biological Sciences with special emphasis on Cell Biology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry and Reproductive Biology and in Medical and Health Sciences with emphasis in Andrology, Toxicology, Public and Environmental Health and Healthcare.
