I am an independent researcher working on hominin behaviour, lithic technology, and Geoarchaeology, internationally recognised for my works on Lower Palaeolithic sites in the Iberian Peninsula and East Africa. In recent years, he has led research projects focused on Acheulean, Middle Palaeolithic, and Upper Palaeolithic key-sites in the Iberian Peninsula, as well as Late Oldowan and Early Acheulean sites in East Africa, including main locations such as the Melka Kunture (Ethiopia) and Olduvai Gorge (Tanzania) areas. I have obtained three competitive grants, since 2019, to support my postdoctoral research in the University of Vigo (Spain), with national and international experience in three countries: Portugal, Ethiopia and Tanzania. I defended my PhD in 2017, focused on the analyse the Lower Palaeolithic record of the north-west Iberia. Of particular significance is the publication of the first European site with African-like extensive accumulations of handaxes or the most recent age of the Acheulean technocomplex in the Iberian range. After my PhD, I expanded the research lines, open new approaches, on East African and Iberian sites. I am leading new surveys on classic Acheulean sites, such as Gándaras de Budiño (Spain). In addition, I have also led new research stages on Middle Palaeolithic sites, such as Cuesta de la Bajada (Spain) or A Piteira (Spain). Also, I led research program focused the study of Palaeolithic and post-Palaeolithic rock art, leading projects at sites of great significance, such as Siega Verde (Spain). At the same time, I started a new line of research focusing on the emergence and development of the Acheulean and Homo erectus in East Africa. Since 2019 I am Co-PI of Melka Kunture project. Here, I have led the research programme focused on the formation processes of mains sites (Gombore II, Simbiro III, Garba I, Gombore IB…), and since 2023, I have been leading the investigation of the Gombore I site. This site contains a unique record in East Africa for explaining the transition from Oldowan to Acheulean technology. Following this role, I obtained national and international funds for an amount ~100,000€, and the results of the research were published in major international journals, such as Science, Nature Ecology & Evolution, Journal of Archaeological Science, Quaternary International, Journal of Palaeolithic Archaeology… I have experience in university teaching in undergraduate courses and in three MA degrees in Spain and Portugal. I supervised four PhD dissertations and other four master dissertations. I am external evaluator of projects for national or international R&D organisations (e.g., Israel Science Foundation or Spanish AEI) and usually review publications for major scientific journals. Also, I am an associate editor and special issues editor in journals such Archaeological and Anthropological Sciences, Quaternary International or Frontiers in Environmental Archaeology.
