Sónia Soares is a Researcher at Rede de Química e Tecnologia (REQUIMTE) - Laboratório Associado para a Química Verde (LAQV), being part of Grupo Reacções e Análises Quimícas (GRAQ) located at Polytechnic of Porto - School of Engineering (ISEP). She graduated in Chemical Engineering at Higher School of Technology and Management of Polytechnic Institute of Bragança (IPB) in 2007 and finished a MSc in Chemical Engineering at the same institution in 2008. In 2011, she was awarded with an FCT PhD scholarship that started in 2012. She finished her PhD in Sustainable Chemistry with success at University of Porto (UP) in 2017. Between 2017 and 2020 she was a Postdoc Researcher at Polyphenol Lab at UP, collaborating in different work areas (in vitro cell-based assays, protein-based assays and analysis of phenolic compounds by HPLC-DAD and HPLC-MS). In 2021 she moved to GRAQ-REQUIMTE/LAQV being actually responsible for the execution of Honey+ project. So far, she has supervised 2 BSc Erasmus student (completed) and is supervising 1 BSc student and 2 internship students. Also, she mentored 1 PhD students and 2 MSc students. She published 19 papers in international peer reviewed (ISI) journals, have more than 30 conference presentations and awarded 1 honour mention. Actually, she works in different areas of Food Sciences with emphasis on agrarian and food biotechnology, and in Engineering and Technology with emphasis on Environmental Biotechnology. In their professional activities she interacted with international and national collaborators co-authors of scientific papers and collaborations with international groups. Her current research is focused on the study of honey quality and honey as a bioindicator of environmental quality.
