Joana Raquel Silva is a Senior Researcher at Fraunhofer Portugal AICOS in the group of Intelligent Systems. She has an Integrated Master (2013) in Bioengineering from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Porto (FEUP) and a Ph.D. (2020) in Biomedical Engineering at the FEUP in the area of Machine Learning. Her research areas are related to signal processing, time series analysis, and machine learning, applied to the detection and assessment of the risk of falling and monitoring of physical activity. She has 8 years of experience in R&D projects (FCC, FallSensing, DeM, MDevNet, IANVS, FRADE, SAIFFER), and in a project of direct contract with industry (GoLivePhone). She coordinated 2 projects in co-promotion (FallSensing, FRADE), supervised 6 master theses, and was involved in the submission of 11 R&D project proposals. She is the author of 25 scientific articles and 2 patents. She has been actively involved in organizing and providing Machine Learning training workshops with theoretical and hands-on sessions to industry partners and internally at AICOS.
