I completed my Gastroenterology training at Centro Hospitalar S. João, Porto, Portugal in 2014, an European Board of Gastroenterology & Hepatology certified Gastroenterology Centre, where I subsequently worked as a Gastroenterologist. From 2017-2018, I held a post as a Researcher and Honorary Consultant at the Homerton Anal Neoplasia Service, at the Homerton University Hospital in London. I have also worked as a Senior Fellow in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (2018-2019), as a Researcher (2019-2021) and then as a Consultant at St. James University Hospital in Leeds (2021-2022). My areas of differentiation are inflammatory bowel disease, early detection and anal cancer prevention (anal HPV) and neurogastroenterology. In 2014, I completed the Harvard Medical SchoolPortugal Program in Translational Research. In February 2019, I completed a PhD on anal precancerous lesions, focusing on biomarkers and epidemiology, at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto, Portugal. Since then, I continued to be active on research on early detection and anal cancer prevention, with several international collaborations. I currently have a total of 81 publications, 56 publications as first author published in journals as The Lancet Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Journal of Crohn's and Colitis, The American Journal of Gastroenterology, Clinical Infectious Diseases, British Journal of Cancer and the International Journal of Cancer. I was a member of the 2021 European Crohn's and Colitis Organisation Guidelines on the Management and Prevention of Opportunistic Infections. and the and the International Continence Society Committee on male anorectal dysfunction terminology. I am an Editorial Board member of BMC Gastroenterology and of the World Journal of Gastroenterology and an Associate Editor of the European Journal of Medical Research. I have been an invited speaker and have co-chair in several international meetings as the IPVS 2023 and UEG 2023. I have organized two international symposiums and one workshop for IPVS. I have served as a Board Member of the International Anal Neoplasia Society (IANS) and was a co-chair for the IANS Spanish-Portuguese Task Force. I am currently a Board member of the International Papillomavirus Society (IPVS), the chair of the IPVS Social Media Task Committe and a member of the Early Career Working Group of IPVS.
