Ana Cristina Rodrigues holds a Degree in Biological Engineering (University of Minho, 1995), Master in Environmental Technologies (University of Minho,1998; Grant from the Foundation for Science and Technology PRAXIS XXI/BM/8371/96) and a PhD in Chemical and Biological Engineering (University of Minho, 2003; Grant from the Foundation for Science and Technology PRAXIS XXI/BD/15944/98). The PhD work included a 6-month period of research at the Institute for Water Quality Control and Waste Management at the Technical University of Munich in Germany, under the supervision of Professor Stefan Wuertz. Post-doc in Modelling of aquatic systems at risk of eutrophication (Grant from the Foundation for Science and Technology SFRH/BPD/9465/2002). Currently, is Adjunct Professor at the Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo (IPVC) and Deputy Director at the School of Agriculture (ESA-IPVC). She is integrated researcher at proMetheus - Research Unit on Materials, Energy and Environment for Sustainability (IPVC), collaborator researcher at CISAS - Center for research and development in agrifood systems and sustainability (IPVC) and collaborator researcher at CEB - Centre of Biological Engineering (University of Minho) since 1998. She is member of the Board of the Portuguese Green Roofs Association (ANCV). Co-founder of a Spin-off from University of Minho, SIMBIENTE - Environmental Engineering and Management. Her teaching and technical and scientific activities focus on nature-based solutions, such as Plant-microbial fuel cells (PMFC), natural coagulants for water treatment, green roofs, vertical gardens, constructed and floating wetlands, dry toilets, towards sustainability of territories and communities, ecosystems services provision, and as tools for climate change adaptation and mitigation. Also dedicates to the promotion of circular economy through nutrient and energy recovery processes, water treatment and reuse, waste treatment and valorization. She has given several talks at international conferences. published several scientific papers and 1 patent application, supervised MSc and PhD students, and participated in several research projects. In the last 5 years she coordinated 3 funded national projects related to nature-based solutions and circular economy (ECOSAN-Promoting integral ecological sanitation, SEIVA - Energetic systems and green infrastructures for agriculture, Agricultural recovery of lime insolubles from water treatment) and participated, representing IPVC as stakeholder, in 3 international projects (iWaterMap ¿ water technology innovation roadmaps, BigData4Rivers ¿ Improving the European rivers water quality through smart water management policies, MERLIN - Mainstreaming Ecological Restoration of freshwater-related ecosystems in a Landscape context: INnovation, upscaling and transformation). Member of the Scientific Committee of the international conference WASTES ¿ Solutions, treatments and opportunities, and of the Nature-based Solutions Summit: Urban Edition. Coordinator of the degree in Biotechnology (2006 ¿ 2013), coordinator of the master in agri-environmental biotechnology (2013 ¿ 2018). Currently, she coordinates the professional higher technical course in biotechnological industries and the Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) on Nature-based Solutions for resilient, sustainable and equitable cities. Since 2006, is responsible for curricular units such as Environmental Biotechnology, Solid waste management, Integrated Project.
