In 2012, Sónia C. Correia received her PhD in Cell Biology from University of Coimbra, Portugal. Thereafter, Sónia C. Correia integrated the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology (CNC) as a postdoctoral researcher with a fellowship from the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology. Currently, Sónia C. Correia is a Doctorate Researcher at CNC. The scientific career of Sónia has been devoted to demystify the pathological basis of AD in order to identify new and feasible peripheral biomarkers for the early diagnosis of the disease and promising therapeutic targets able to counteract the AD symptomatology and neuropathology in a timely manner. Particularly, Sónia is interested in unveiling the contribution of abnormal mitochondrial dynamics and hampered adaptative response to hypoxia triggered by the family of transcription factors HIFs to the onset and progression of this devastating neurodegenerative disease. Despite an interruption in her scientific career due to two maternity leaves (2016 and 2018), the Curriculum Vitae of Sónia C. Correia includes more than 50 papers in international peer-review journals with an overall h-index=37 or 34 and >5700 or 4000 citations, according to Google Scholar or Scopus respectively. In 2010, Sónia C. Correia won the ASN Neuro Poster Prize sponsored by the American Society of Neurochemistry. Honorable, Sónia was recently recognized as an Expert in Alzheimer Disease by the Expertscape, an online base of biomedical expertise. Currently, Sónia is the principal investigator of an ESCI exploratory research grant.
