Maria João Lima graduated in Marine Sciences in 2016 at Instituto de Ciências Biomédicas Abel Salazar (University of Porto), and concluded a master's degree in Marine and Coastal Systems in 2021 at Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia (University of Algarve). In the past few years, she has been working as a research grant holder in the Centre of Marine and Environmental Research (CIMA-UAlg). She has been developing research in Biological Oceanography, and her major research interests include studying phenological patterns of blooms of toxigenic phytoplankton, and identifying potential environmental drivers and predictors using multiple statistical analysis and modelling approaches (e.g., empirical-statistical, machine learning, mechanistic numerical). She has been involved in 2 research projects as a research fellow. During the fellowships, she has participated in 2 oceanographic campaigns to collect physical and biological data. She has presented 3 communications (2 oral and 1 poster) in international conferences, and participated as a session chair in one of the conferences. She has published 3 peer-reviewed articles in SCI-indexed journals, and received two awards for academic excellence.
